Beguinage

Monuments & Museums Begijnhof 24-28-30 , Brugge,
Information

In 1245, the 'Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde' was founded, with its white-colored house fronts and serene monastic garden. This small piece of world history was formerly home to the beguines, emancipated laywomen who lived a holy and celibate life despite their freedom. Today, the beguinage is home to Order of St. Benedict nuns and a group of Bruges women who have chosen to remain single.
