This castle was built in the 15th century by Francis II, the last Duke of Brittany, who intended it be both a military fortress and a residence for the court of the duchy. After his death, the construction would be completed by his daughter Anne of Brittany, twice the Queen of France, who added numerous embellishments to her father’s plans.

The castle was officially classified as a historic monument in 1840, since when it has housed the Nantes History Museum. The museum’s 32 rooms tell the complete history of the city, its castle and the region of Brittany. Paintings, sculptures, maps, engravings, posters, photographs… In total more than 850 works bear witness to the history of the city and help visitors to better understand the past and present issues affecting Nantes and its surrounding areas. With its many cultural shows, exhibitions, concerts and activities, the castle’s cultural calendar is always fully booked.

A historic treasure that can be reached from the hotel by foot in only five minutes!

Monday-Sunday : from 8:30am to 7pm

Museum and exhibition :

Tuesday-Sunday : from 10am to 6pm

Closed on Sundays.
